A creamy, refreshing, high-protein smoothie for breakfast or post-workout recovery. It would also make a great mid-afternoon pick-me-upper. Two minutes of prep and you can be enjoying this smoothie.
It will keep a few hours in the fridge or you can enjoy it freshly made.
If you are falling short of your protein requirements for the day, this strawberry protein shake can be a lifesaver. 12 grams of protein is the same protein value in 2 large eggs. Healthy smoothies are a great way to hide protein in them.
Often a frozen banana is used in smoothies to make strawberry banana protein shake or strawberry banana protein smoothie if you will; however avocados would do something similar things for the texture. Just add a few blocks of ice and blend them along with the other ingredients to get a super cold thick result.
Unsweetened almond milk could be used instead of cream if you are calorie conscious, but it is so much creamier made with real cream. I did not use fresh strawberries but frozen unsweetened strawberries which means this smoothie can be made year round - especially wonderful for busy mornings. Since simple ingredients are used in this smoothie, you will often have all the ingredients at home.
INGREDIENTS:
2 cups frozen strawberries (500 mL)
(unsweetened)
1 cup Greek yogurt (250 mL)
Liquid sweetener to equal 3/4 cup sugar (175 mL)
1/4 cup ricotta cheese (60 mL)
1/4
cup vanilla whey protein powder (60 mL)
3/4
cup ice cold water (175 mL)
1/2
cup cream (125 mL)
1 tsp vanilla extract (5 mL)
In
blender, combine strawberries, yogurt, liquid sweetener, ricotta cheese, vanilla
whey protein powder, ice cold water, cream and vanilla extract. Blend until smooth, stopping the blender to scrape
down the sides occasionally. Pour into 3
tall glasses and serve right away or refrigerate for enjoying later in the day.
